The World Congress of Gerontology is a major vehicle through which IAGG achieves its objectives. Held every four years, internationally recognized experts in Gerontology share their knowledge and experience through plenary presentations, invited symposia, paper and poster sessions. The most recent one, the 18th World Congress of Gerontology, was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 26th to 30th, 2005.

Participation, Health and Security
Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

The 18th International Congress of Gerontology held in Rio de Janeiro, 2005, was a demonstration of the growing interest in ageing. I could use several arguments to say that it was successful: more than 2000 papers were presented, there were nearly 4000 registrations, the social program was wonderful, and, which is most important, a tremendous exchange of experiences and new ideas.

However I rather let those who attended confirm my impression. A basic concept all who have been in Rio share is that IAGG´s World Congress of Gerontology is a scientific event no one can afford to miss. This is why we all should be in Paris in 2009.
